Intergenerational Diné Language Classes
Where: Mesa Public School, Student Services Building, 1025 N. Country Club Drive
When: Days vary – please call for updates
Time: 6pm to 7pm
What: Class will teach Diné language from a traditional perspective using Diné culture. You will learn the basic alphabet system, numbering system, colors, and many more through the use of activities and audio visuals. This class will be open to all Diné people and their families (birth to elders). Come and enjoy learning the Diné language and hear some of the stories and teachings of our elders. Storytelling will be a part of this class to give insight to Oral Traditions.
Diné Culture Classes
Where: Phoenix Indian Center, GED classroom, 4520 N. Central Ave, Suite 250 (Second Floor)
When: Monday nights
Time: 6:00pm to 7:30pm
What:This class will teach the basic fundamentals of Diné culture using the Diné Philosophy. Through the use of visual aides, text books, and presenters, you will gain a better understanding of the Diné culture. This class will be open to all Diné people and their families (birth to elders). Come and enjoy learning about the Diné language and culture. Hear some of the stories and teachings of our elders. Storytelling will be a part of this class to give insight to Oral Traditions.
Adult Diné Language Classes Materials fee of $25 is required.

When: Saturdays
Time: 9:00am to 11:00am
What: The Adult language classes offer three different levels of classes and rotate each semester. Please call for level of class that will be taught.
Beginning Navajo
This class is for the non-Navajo speaker emphasizing on the Diné alphabet system, the sound system and the structure of the Diné language. You will learn the Diné language with an emphasis on pronunciation and vowels. You will learn basic vocabulary which includes numbers, colors and simple dialogue. You will learn the correct introduction using your clans. Materials fee of $25 is required.
Intermediate Navajo
This class will enhance your basic Navajo conversation, reading and writing skills through poetry, songs and children’s literature. It is an introduction to conversational Navajo. Materials fee of $25 is required.
Navajo Literacy
This class is for the fluent speakers of Diné language, and focuses on reading and writing the spoken language. You will learn to read and write, understand the alphabet sound system through poetry, children’s literature, storytelling, singing and other written materials.Materials fee of $25 is required.
Children’s Classes
This class will teach language through songs, learners will explore various singing styles and songs sung for different purposes in Diné culture. It will teach social songs, patriotic songs, corn grinding songs, and children’s songs. Materials fee of $25 is required.
Seasonal Stories
Each season the Phoenix Indian Center offers culturally-based storytelling that is open to all community members in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Information on each session will be posted to the Website and information distributed electronically.
